The Hemodynamic Effects of H2 Antagonists in Intensive Care Unit PatientsDepartments of Surgery and Anesthesiology, The Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY Many critical care patients require intravenously ad ministered H2-receptor antagonists to reduce the acidity of gastric acid secretions and prevent the incidence of stress-related mucosal damage. These patients are often already hemodynamically compromised or unstable. The use of an H2-receptor antagonist that further com promises the cardiovascular status of these critically ill patients could prove detrimental.
